TC2000 review: fast US scans with a free practice account
Official site: tc2000.com
TC2000 tops our rankings because its scans and alerts did the most work for the least setup during our 30-day test. It comes from Worden Brothers, Inc., a US company founded in 1988, and the platform is now offered by TC2000 Software Company. Everything about it is built around US markets. Canadians can still get a lot out of it, provided most of their trading happens on NYSE, Nasdaq or Amex.

Pricing and add-ons
Basic costs $24.99/mo, Premium $49.99/mo and Premium+ $99.99/mo on monthly billing. Pay for a year and you get two months free; a two-year plan gives six months free. The plan price is only part of the bill. Real-time US options data adds $9.99/mo, real-time US indexes another $9.99/mo and the consolidated tape $14.99/mo, so a Premium user with live options quotes pays $59.98/mo before any discount. TC2000 shows a dollar sign with no currency code, so check the currency at checkout.
Scans, alerts and charts
EasyScan is why most people pay for TC2000. On Premium and above it scans and sorts in real time, and personal criteria formulas let you turn a condition such as a moving-average cross into a scan column or an alert. Premium+ tracks up to 1,000 alerts at once. On lower plans, 100 extra alerts cost $10/mo and 500 cost $25/mo. The formula language took us an afternoon to learn. After that, our scans here were the most flexible of the six platforms.
Options tools and the practice account
The option chain, option screener and built-in option strategies sit next to the charts, so you can model a spread without leaving the platform. For newer users the free practice account is the best part: unlimited paper trading with a chart, positions, an option chain and a journal, and no credit card needed. Paper trading also works with real-time data, which makes practice at the open feel close to the real thing.
What Canadian traders should know
TC2000's pricing lists real-time US exchange data only (NYSE, Amex and Nasdaq via Nasdaq Basic). The TSX and TSX-V are not mentioned. Its integrated brokerage, TC2000 Brokerage, Inc., is a US firm and a FINRA/SIPC member. If most of your trades are on Canadian exchanges, pair TC2000 with a second tool or look at StockCharts, which sells a real-time TSX and TSX-V add-on for $9.95/mo.
Who it suits
Intermediate traders who scan US stocks and options every day will get the most from it. Beginners can learn on the free practice account and upgrade later. Short on budget? Start on Basic and add data only when a scan needs it.
